When her father is murdered by a Taliban cell in the tribal regions of Pakistan, Khalia Patterson reluctantly steps into his shoes to carry on the legacy of Fair Start Foundation, a non-profit group dedicated to furthering the education of girls. There she meets Hunter Phillips, the former SEAL and head of her Titanium security team, and quickly learns that coming to Pakistan might prove to be a deadly decision.
Battling demons of his own, Hunter grudgingly leads Khalia’s protective detail as a favor to his boss. From their first meeting it’s clear she’s going to be trouble, and that the cell that killed her father is hell bent on taking her out as well. Keeping her alive is one of the toughest assignments he’s ever faced, yet through one harrowing situation after another she continually impresses him with her strength and inner courage. Even though he fights his feelings for her, it’s a losing battle. And when the job is over, he doesn’t know how he’ll let her go.
Ignited Titanium Security Series Book 1 edition by Kaylea Cross Romance eBooks
This is a great military romantic suspense story. I think it's hard to pull off the realism of such a gritty theme, but Kaylea Cross does it well. Khalia's father died at the hands of radical militants so after his death she takes over the non-profit group he had started in Pakistan to help with the education of girls. She's nervous about going there and I liked that aspect of her personality. She's a realistic character who understands that her life will be in danger when she goes to Pakistan. Yet, she does it anyway. To me, that's what makes her brave. When she gets there she meets Hunter, leader of the Titanium Security group who will be protecting her. They get off to a rocky start because of some issues she has but that's short lived and the chemistry between them is scorching.Hunter isn't exactly thrilled about being leader of her protective detail, especially after she questions whether he was actually a SEAL or not. But he and his team do their job and before he knows it, she's completely gotten under his skin. Neither of them want to feel the intense attraction but it's there and they both have to face it.
While she's at the girl's school her foundation is supporting, they're attacked and from there the action is non-stop. Trying to outrun, outmaneuver and outthink the militants who are determined to see her dead makes this an awesome romantic suspense. There were some twists and turns I didn't see coming and the romance was scorching but still sweet. Hunter is such an alpha hero, but not an alpha jerk. I really loved his character and the way he interacted with Khalia. And I can't wait to see the rest of the Titanium Security guys get their own story.
If you've read Kaylea Cross before you won't be disappointed. And if you haven't, this is a perfect example of what romantic suspense should be like. It's realistic and gritty, but the romance and suspense blended perfectly together making this book impossible to put down.

Ignited Titanium Security Series Book 1 edition by Kaylea Cross Romance eBooks Reviews
Hunter (31) never got over the death of his best friend Scottie on their last mission—the mission that opened this story. Though he doesn’t want to revisit the place of that fateful day, he agrees to a new detail mission. Only the client is the daughter of the man who caused the riots that cost Scottie his life.
Khalia (28), high school math teacher and daughter of a philanthropist recently killed by the Taliban for his efforts to bring education to women, knew the risks of taking up her father’s cause. Though she didn’t want to be in the volatile region, she felt a responsibility to finish what he’d started and to let his death have been in vain.
I absolutely loved and didn’t put it down until I’d cleared the last page. This was my first Kayla Cross book, and I was blown away by the writing, the level of action and suspense and the fantastic, mature characters. Khalia and Hunter had chemistry in spades, but the mutual attraction wasn’t just physical. Hunter was smart, brave, loyal and honorable. Khalia was smart, courageous, and she had a big heart. I remember making a note around 66% into the story that were was no unnecessary conflict—the hero was not an overbearing jerk, and the heroine didn’t stubbornly try to claim she was capable of taking care of herself. When Hunter told her to do something for her safety, she did it without hesitation. Hallelujah!
OMG, they actually communicated like adults *swoon*. When the subject that haunted him most inadvertently came up, he knew his knee jerk reaction was a douche move, but he opened up and told her about it. Also, he was honest with her about their future, namely that he didn't foresee them having one at the time the subject came up. I really like it when characters throw their baggage out there for the sake of being open and upfront about things, whether the other person wants to hear it or not. The sex was scorching hot! Their first time together in the shower was amazing. It was rough, passionate, carnal. But right after, he was so tender with her. She was content and comfortable and trusting.
The vividly described action scenes played out in my mind like a movie scene. It's saying a lot when an author can make an escape from a burning hotel, and a gunfight in a stairwell feel like almost claustrophobic for a captive reader. One trained ex SEAL, a high school math teacher, two pistols and armed insurgents, fire and smoke…not a problem for those two. The main villain wasn't caught, so it seems he will be a part of the bigger picture throughout the series.
The HEA ending for these two was perfect. I loved his surprise, but I especially loved the thoughtfulness of her project that she wanted Hunter involved in. That was just one more thing that conveyed how well these two fit.
I'm a big Kaylea Cross fan and have read all her books. I even gave her 5* for one book I read some time ago - believe me a rare thing for me to do. However, this time I'm not that happy.
Usually Cross divides her plot perfectly between suspense/military part and romance part. However, this book developed too slowly. The first half of the book was devoted to the main characters' insecurities, fears and military actions in connection with the book. More specifically, Khalia and Hunter feel an attraction towards each other right from the first time they meet but it took them nearly half the book to decide how or who would make the first step. Basically there isn't anything wrong with that, especially if the author uses this time to prepare and introduce further developments smoothly and properly. However, this didn't happen in this case. The developments of the plot were presented as if a switch was flipped.
Khalia and Hunter were likeable main characters. However, the background information on them wasn't enough to let them appear in the mind's eye and whatever bits and pieces of info were given about them appeared as if they were presented in a report, which just reinforced the impression that this book was a bit rushed.
Needless to say that I would've appreciated a better and longer sneak peak at the couple back in the States. I would also have appreciated to find out what happened with Hunter and the job development that was shortly hinted at. And believe me - the list with what I wanted and expected from this book could go on and on.
All over not a bad book but in no case and by no means up to Cross' usual standard.
