Here is the story of how the English acquired their vast domain; how they ruled, maintained, and exploited it; and how, within decades, they presided over its dissolution. Here are Britain's triumphs and also her stinging defeats, her heroes and her scoundrels. It is a full and fascinating chronicle of the growth of the British Empire and its people and of the impact that empire had on the rest of the world.

An interesting read. Well written and informative. I learned a lot about a subject I felt I should know more about as an Englishman. I'm glad it didn't go down the modern PC road of condemning the Empire through the lens of modern values. It felt very long (no idea how many actual "pages" it is as I read an electronic version). For all that, the summary chapter at the end seemed a bit abrupt. Maybe I was expecting something more poetic to tie things up.

The British Empire (Audible Audio Edition) Stephen W Sears Corrie James a Division of Recorded Books HighBridge Books Reviews

I purchase this thinking that it would simply be a straight forward history of the British empire, as the title so obviously states. However, I soon learned that I had bought a sarcastic derision of an ridiculois, unjust, white British world of the author's leftist fantasy. What a wast of money.
The " Empire " is an easy, comprehensive accounting of the English history and the country's impact throughout the world over centuries. From the Caribbean to China, India, Africa and Australia. The influence in culture, economics and government persist through today and capturing the rise and decline of the Empire is fascinating reading. Much of the detail of the book contributes to a better understanding of why some of our world is the way it is today.
This anthology presents many viewpoints on the nature and purpose of the British Empire. It is a general work which presents many aspects of the Empire but doesn’t go in depth. I have several caveats about this book the most serious is some authors of topics and periods assume more knowledge of particulars about people and events with explaining in the text or footnoting an item. Second and this is an extension of the first there are no maps. Otherwise a fine work.
Thorough, explicit, informative history of the British Empire with some editorializing by various authors. Written in a very story like fashion. i.e. not just a recital of dates and facts.
An excellent and well written book . It brought back to me so many half forgotten names and places. It is not a dry book. , full of life and action.
Great, comprehensive book, written by different authors, who somehow maintained almost identically magnificent style.
I bought this book because is was Stephen Sears was listed as the author. He was NOT the author, but rather the editor, but despite that mis-representation by , it is an excellent book with many interest essays covering the period from Elizabeth I to Elizabeth II. If you are interested in gaining renewing your memory for British history, this is an excellent, well written book.
